Forest certification according to PEFC standards is based on the strict guidelines for the sustainable management of forests. This management is controlled by competent and independent organisations. If a product made of wood bears the PEFC seal, this means: the entire product production - from the raw material to the ready-to-use end product - is certified and controlled by independent experts.

Many of DEUFA's rodent traps are largely made of wood. As a material with a promising future, wood is a core material of DEUFA products and thus makes it possible to contribute to climate protection. Wood is a renewable basic raw material and is not mined but managed. Sustainable forest management is ensured and proven by e.g. the PEFC certificate. This article explains how DEUFA contributes to climate protection by processing only PEFC-certified wood.
What does PEFC mean:
PEFC is a transparent and independent system for ensuring sustainable forest management and thus a kind of global "forest audit". The abbreviation PEFC stands for "Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes".
What does PEFC stand for?
- Only as much wood is harvested as will grow back in the forest.
- Climate-stable forests are preserved and further developed.
- Water bodies, drinking water reserves and soils are protected.
- Special biotopes in the forest - such as deadwood trees as habitats for rare animal and plant species - are preserved.
- Permanent damage to trees or the soil shall be avoided.
- Natural forests may not be converted into plantations.
- No genetically modified trees are planted.
- Compliance with the highest standards of forest worker safety is mandatory.
- Respect for workers' rights is an important component - this includes fair payment of workers.
- Special attention is paid to the social needs and rights of the people who live from, near or in the forest.
- Sustainable forest management makes the valuable raw material wood available to society - with proof that wood and paper products made from this raw material come from legal and sustainable sources.
How does DEUFA process PEFC wood?
The wooden components of the DEUFA impact and live traps are only made from PEFC-certified hardwoods of Southern German origin and board cuttings. During processing (rough cutting, planing and sawing operations), attention is paid to the highest possible material yield. In addition to energy and cost efficiency, the manufacturing processes enable the responsible and economical use of wood as a renewable natural raw material.
